Property Description
Location: Western Provence, in the Gard, in an area of vineyards, lavender and sunflower
fields, small farms, stone villages, 45 km from Avignon to the west, (30km) from the
Pont du Gard (20) km north of Uzes, a listed duchy town with smart shops, restaurants,
and famous Saturday open air market; 12 km from the charming village of Goudargues with
its numerous restaurants and active village life. The property has a view of the classified
hilltop village of Lussan (4km) which has a small grocery and two restaurants. Numerous
rivers are nearby, the Gardon (the Pont du Gard), the Ceze, and further north the famous
Ardeche with its river kayaking opportunities.
History: The hamlet dating from the 17th century was once the home to several families
involved in the making of silk, at one time a thriving local industry. The silk worms
were reared in the "magnaneries" which on cold nights were kept warm by small corner
fireplaces still intact. The hameau of Le Roux is a recognized "site classee" due to
the charm of its architecture and location, in addition to the hilltop town of Lussan
nearby.
Property: One of only two houses in the classified hameau of Le Roux, Le Petit Mas is
the gatehouse to the hamlet at the west end.
