Description of the area
Cefalù is a renowned tourist resort on the Tyrrhenian coast, 60 km east of Palermo. The ancient Sicilian village was founded in the IVth century B.C. and through the centuries has become respectively Roman, Byzantine and Moslem, knowing its highest splendour under the Norman rule. Cefalù is set in an extraordinary charming panorama including the huge sea horizon, the overhanging Fortress and the Norman Cathedral soaring above the town. Around the Duomo, the focal point of the medieval town, meander several narrow streets where you can admire many churches and small Baroque and Renaissance mansions.
